Part of Our Story

LUFKIN - Here by Choice!

“I never dreamed that when I retired I’d be out of my house by 6:30 each morning to get together with a bunch of guys. But I am, and I laugh my head off with these fellows at the feed store. It’s a great way to start my day!” – JE Treadway, Retired to Lufkin in 2005

This former corporate executive has unlocked one of Lufkin’s secrets—its people. JE Treadway and his wife Janet are both native Texans, but they spent 40 plus years in Chicago before retiring. Ties to family brought them back to Texas.

“We thought our time would be spent with grandchildren, but now we’ve created a life for ourselves and squeeze time in with them.” Family, friends and church are the Treadways’ “big three”. Plus both have taken up golf and hit the links often at Crown Colony Country Club, which is right out their back door. Janet thrives on the women she’s met who ‘live to give back to their community.’ JE also surrounds himself Did You Know? Did you know that LUFKIN owes its start to trees? What started as a sawmill town has become the heart of Angelina County! with men looking to make a difference. When his group’s not drinking coffee and spinning stories, they’re cooking up barbecue to fund college scholarships for deserving area students. The Treadways admit that their lives are blessed beyond belief.
